HOPES developed from an Accommodation working party, formed in the early 1990s, to address supported accommodation problems faced by younger adults with disabilities. HOPES became an incorporated body in 1997, committed to creating a range of supported accommodation and respite options for younger Tasmanians (up to 65 years of age) with acquired brain and other injuries, neurological conditions, and cerebral palsy. Our current role is to encourage partnerships between all tiers of government, existing providers, and interested people in the private sector, to develop a viable, co-operative accommodation and respite model.
Initially encompassing all disabilities, the group decided to concentrate on people with a specific range of acquired injuries and neurological impairments, who were currently slipping through the net.
HOPES membership includes people living and/or working with Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, and Cerebral Palsy. Click here to meet our Committee of Management.
